DIAMOND CORE DRILLING

CLITHEROE, LANCASHIRE

We recently carried out diamond core drilling for new plumbing pipework at a historic farmhouse in Chatburn, near Clitheroe.

The property dates back to the late 1600s, with solid blue-stone walls approximately 700mm thick. We drilled 20 holes in total, ranging from 52mm to 152mm diameter, including a 127mm hole drilled at approximately 45 degrees to a depth of 1.1 metres.

The stone was particularly hard to drill, and loose rubble inside the walls kept dropping into the openings. Some holes had to be re-drilled, with pipes inserted straight afterwards to stop the rubble blocking them again.
